Hofstra University

Hofstra University is a private, coeducational and nonsectarian University located just 25 miles east of New York City in Hempstead Long Island. Hofstra University was the first co-educational college founded in 1935. This university has top curriculums in law, business, sciences and arts. It maintains strong in academic education for both undergraduate and graduate levels. This University is a marvel setting on a huge 240 acre and you will simply love its accredited arboretum. This University continues to provide the latest advances in learning skills for students to help them target the best careers around the country. For those who are interested in fine arts Hofstra host both musical and theatrical performances right on their campus.

Hofstra brings people who want to earn a degree one of the largest curriculums to select from as it offers over 2,150 courses in about 130undergraduate programs in liberal arts, the sciences and engineering, business, communication and education. Hofastra offers state-of-the-art classrooms, and classes are kept down to an average of around 22 per class. The professors believe this helps to emphasize interaction and critical thinking and the development of judgment. Students will enjoy all the resources they need along with internet access and a vast library filled with any information they could ever need.

Hofstra University Honors College is designed for the most academically advanced students. Honors College offers students a striking, focused, multidisciplinary first-year program taught by some of Hofstra's most distinguished faculty. After their first year, Honors College students will be able to select from a large range of Honors-credit courses in all major programs and the option to write an Honors thesis as a senior.

New College emphasizes a personalized approach to education, students work with their professors to design customized programs of study. The educational opportunities and courses offered within New College and other units of the University, to special lectures, internships, independent studies and study abroad sites.

Hofstra's Saturday College offers special designed transitional seminars with introductions to academic research and writing. Seminars are an important part of the liberal arts and a critical component of the degree. It helps prepare students, even if they have been out of school for many years, for their studies.

Hofstra's Computer Technology Organization and Leadership. These Studies allow students to acquire skills in significant areas of contemporary professional life, equally important in the private, public and non-profit sectors. The blend of business and business related courses prepare students with the vocabulary and tools vital to every aspect of the future of economy, coupled with solid grounding in the liberal arts guarantees graduates that they can feel confident and ready.

Hofstra's Arboretum is a registered member of the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta, one of only 430 arboreta in the United States. Its home to over 10,000 evergreen and deciduous trees represents 625 species and varieties. It has two acres dedicated to a bird sanctuary and in 1985 became a member of the prestigious American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta. It's a must see for all people who enjoy nature and is open to self guided tours.

The Hofstra Museum has been awarded the highest honor a museum can receive, continued accreditation by the American Association of Museums (AAM). Less than 10 percent of museums nationwide have earned this distinguished recognition. Accreditation certifies that the Hofstra Museum operates according to professional standards, manages its collections responsibly and provides quality service to the public.

Hofstra athletics offers some of the best activates in the United States with a proud history, of Dutch heritage that helps to make Hofstra a very unique school. The ties date back to William S. Hofstra, who the school is named after and on whose property the University was started. When the school first opened in 1935, it was the only building on campus. Today the mansion is used as the administrative offices. During the early stages of the schools history was born the Hofstra Alma "The Netherlands."

Students will find many things to do and see at Hofstra:

Cultural Center- it includes a Conference, Symposia and Performing Arts Program, Theater Program, Music Program, Hofstra Museum, and Long Island Studies Institute.
Swim Center- Olympic-sized swimming pool, which is equipped with a lift for the disabled
Museum - includes three dedicated indoor exhibition spaces and an extensive collection of outdoor sculpture on Hofstra's North and South Campus
Theater-includes Hofstra Mid-Season, The Gray Wig, and Hofstra USA Productions, which offer musical and dramatic performances and shows during the fall and spring semesters as well as a summer season.

Athletics- programs are competitive on the national level. In recent years enthusiasm about and involvement in the athletic programs at Hofstra have continued to grow. Parents are invited to attend all athletic events.

University Club - private membership club that offers excellent food in attractive and comfortable meeting and dining facilities
