KIPP stands for Knowledge is Power Program, exactly what you get at Kipp Academy Charter School founded by David Levin, a Yale University graduate, who believes that children of average abilities can do just as well as gifted kids, if they are willing to study hard.
This charter school offers all the possible support for children, including teachers' home phone numbers if they need to call for homework help. Children receiving special education services may get extra help during regular classes in an inclusion model.
Classrooms are well stocked with interesting books along with the traditional textbooks, and classical music is played faintly in the background in some classes, including math, to stimulate the children's learning.
Music is important for nurturing learning, and all students are required to learn music and play a musical instrumental as part of the KIPP curriculum, in order to graduate. The orchestra's music practices take place three days a week after school and three hours on Saturdays. |
