Founded in 2000, the Merrick Academy - Queens Public Charter School is managed by Victory Schools, Inc., a for-profit management organization, having a cheerful atmosphere with colorful, clean classrooms and walls covered with original artwork from the students.

The Merrick Academy encourages children to participate actively in learning, giving to their classrooms in a nontraditional fashion arrangement in a communal space, where they can interact with other kids, exceeding many other public schools in scores as for September 2004 statistics.
