The Riverhead Charter School is a public school with grade levels from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, which goal is give every student a true choice in public education. This school promotes local exploration and love of learning meeting or even exceeding the state and federal standards, in a rigorous community, stimulating and inviting to parents, teachers and students.
Riverhead Charter School (RCS) nurtures the individual gifts of every child, preparing its students for a rewarding community life, with a curriculum built around five knowledge areas; math and science, character and ethics, physical fitness and health, practical arts and skills, and humanities and the arts.
There are approximately 264 students at this school, whose progress is closely monitored to ensure that standards are met, with a locally developed curriculum based upon the district's community is also included when needed.
Children in the charter school also will study Spanish beginning in kindergarten, and the 4th Grade English Exam (ELA) scores have made tremendous strides gaining 19% against the modest 3% made in other New York State schools during the same period. |
