Jericho School District
Adhering to the motto "Funding principles for a district of excellence", Jericho School District provides the most challenging courses for only the best students.
This district is ranked third in the nation, for encouraging and supporting all students to take advanced courses, starting at Elementary school level, offering a tutoring program for struggling students. Jericho School District is basically located in the Town of Oyster Bay with a small part in the Town of Hempstead, being part of the Robert Williams plantation in 1648.
Formerly known as Lusum, the town was renamed to Jericho in 1692 after the famous town in the Middle East near the Jordan River mentioned in the Bible. The English families who settled in Jericho sought a peaceful existence as farmers seeing the place as part of that Promised Land.
With a Post Office established in 1802, the first public Elementary school in 1905, and a new elementary school in 1920s, Jericho School District is today the academic Promised Land of the 21st century. |
