Dowling College

Dowling College is an outstanding facility that has grown by leaps and bounds. Providing two great campuses for learning, Rudolph Campus rest on the banks of the Connetquot River in the town of Oakdale. The other Campus is nestled on about 105 acres in Shirley which is called the Brookhaven Campus. Dowling College is well known abroad for the many special degrees student can earn. This private college was originally part of the Adelphi University's Suffolk campus it was founded in 1955. This coeducational college offers Graduate Business and Education courses and some are offered at the Melville Center.

Dowling College

Dowling College is accredited with the New York State Education Department, Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges, International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

Dowling College offers over 29 clubs and organizations, many annual events and trips, an active Student Government Association, and 13 Honor Societies. Dowling offers two massive libraries the main library is at the Rudolph Campus and the reference and reserves library is at the Brookhaven Campus. Student can even access the 175,000 volumes right from their homes.

It may be of an interest to know that, nearly 72% of full-time undergraduate students received some form of financial assistance in the 2003-2004 academic years. Sources of assistance include: college grants and scholarships, state and federal grants, loans and work-study, and funding from private organizations.

Most of the students live in Suffolk and Nassau Counties on Long Island. Students come to Dowling from approximately 34 states and 52 countries; International students represent 3% of total enrollment. Ethnic Distribution: White/Non-Hispanic: 64%; Black: 9%; Hispanic: 8%; Asian: 3%. Full-Time Students: 62% Female and 38% Male.

Dowling College employs a full time faculty of around 128 educators of which most hold a Doctoral Degree. Some other special features about Dowling offers are apartment-style residence living, Internet connection for students with personal computers in each room for free. Classrooms are filled with computers with a campus network and Internet access. Also the use of VCR and DVD with information viewable on a 6'x8' screen through a digital data projector; The Blackboard Learning System software is also utilized. Wireless network connections are available in the cafeteria, libraries, and student lounges at both campuses.

Dowling is well known for its Championship Athletic Programs and is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, The Eastern and the New York Collegiate Athletic Conferences. Wide range of sports offered include: Men's and Women's: Basketball, Tennis, Crew, Soccer; Men's: Baseball, Lacrosse, Golf; Women's: Volleyball, Softball, Equestrian and Cross Country. Some of the top degrees are majors for Undergraduates: Elementary Education, Management, and Accounting. Top Degree Programs for Graduate Students: MBA in General Management; Master of Education, Master of Science. Tuition averages figures to be: Undergraduate per credit: $507 or $15,210 for 30 credits. Graduate Tuition per credit hour: $593, Accelerated Saturday MBA Program: $29,000 Accelerated 12 Month MBA: $27,000, Doctoral Program: $41,000.

Dowling's school for aviation is tops in professional pilot training, and aviation and management. Programs are intended to ready you for aviation careers throughout the country and world wide. Dowling graduates fly for air carriers, corporations, and the military. Aviation management graduates work for air carriers, the FAA, and private industry in such areas as marketing, finance, compliance, and air traffic.

Dowling uses state-of-the-art flight simulators and even a 7 Piper Warriors, an Arrow and a twin engine Seminole. The planes are equipped with the latest instrumentation & avionics including IFR certified Gamin Global Position Systems with moving map capability. Graduates of the program obtain all pilot certificates and ratings.

Dowling offers unique resource for anyone who wishes to further their education with credit courses and continuing education programs. They are perfect for students seeking intern in your business, or need an interesting speaker for your next civic organization meeting.

Dowling offers great living accommodations at both Oakdale and Brookhaven Campuses. Now Oakdale completely remolded in 2003 and provides housing for 207 full-time undergraduate students. Every apartment host four students and features two bedrooms a living/dining room, kitchen, full bathroom, and private exterior entrance. All rooms are fully carpeted and air conditioned, and furnishings include beds, desks, chairs, and dressers. Each room is equipped with Internet, cable television and telephone access. A centrally located study lounge is available to all residents 24 hours a day.

Other amenities included for students are the gym, and utilize the weight room. Upstairs is the Lion's Den, where you can shoot pool, watch TV, and play darts. Student mailboxes are also located here.

At Brookhaven they offer 289-bed living quarters, which offers an enhanced hotel feel and look with a lobby, cozy lounge area, game room, fitness center, elevators, and a laundry room on each floor.
Brookhaven offers 1 2 and 3 bedroom apartments to cater to individual living styles and needs. Each unit has at least one private bath, a fully equipped kitchen, including a microwave oven, an eating area and a lounge/common living area. Each is comfortably furnished to allow each student to have their own desk and chair, bed, dresser, and individual closet. The lounge/common living space is comfortably furnished with couches, chairs, TV, and sufficient space for informal gatherings. Each suite is equipped with an Internet link and cable TV and telephone hookup.

Expect the best in education at Dowling as they never use Graduate assistants for studies but you will learn from only a credentialed faculty. You will learn in small classes working closely with your classmates and your professors.

Several members of the Dowling College faculty have authored important books and frequently present their research at forums world wide. Dowling College is by far one of the most recommend and respected choices for earning a degree.
