A talented and dedicated staff works to help the students to achieve their intellectual, social, and athletic "personal best." Working in partnership with the site-based management team composed of teachers, students, and parents, the administration fosters participation in academic programs above and beyond the prescribed curriculum. Students at every achievement level receive the services they require. In the spring of 1994, the faculty voted unanimously in favor of adopting the Renaissance Program. Twice a year, those students who pass everything (including midterms, finals, and Regents) are hosted at a breakfast. They receive cards (Platinum - Honor Society membership, Gold - 90 or better average, Blue - 80 or better average, and White - all passing grades) which entitle them to special perks and privileges. Community service is also a major component of the student's education. Peer Leaders, the Key Club, Senior Class officers, the Honor Society, and the Music Department devote their time and resources ranging from entertaining at senior citizen centers to installing a children's library at a local medical center. There is no doubt that MacArthur's vision for the students has evolved from a sincere belief that the district's mission statement Success for Every Student in concert with the school's motto "Knowledge is Power" will result in continued achievement.
