The staff of South Oceanside Road School No 4, in partnership with parents and community, believes that all students can learn. We believe that the individual child is the heart of the school 's existence and, therefore, is central to all educational decisions and processes. We strive to create and foster a nurturing environment that promotes literacy, critical thinking, respect for self and others, a positive work ethic and a healthful life-style. As a community of learners, we strive to meet these beliefs and prepare our students for the challenges of the new millennium and our ever changing society.

As we begin our eighth year as an elementary school, our "community" has grown, while students continue to learn together through a multitude of exciting classroom, grade-level and buildingwide learning experiences. Students in our "community" learn from our teachers, staff, parents, senior citizens, college and high school volunteers, and from each other. They learn from peers in their classes through a variety of cooperative learning experiences and activities, as well as from their schoolmates in different grades. Throughout the year every class will engage in ongoing projects with students on a different grade level enhancing the educational experience for both levels.
Technology continues to play an ever-increasing role in enhancing learning, and expanding research capabilities for our youngsters. Our school incorporates the latest technology in each of our classrooms and a state-of-the-art Library-Media Center featuring our fully automated library. Our electronic catalog, with its computerized databases, permits children to search more efficiently for materials, to learn instantaneously which books are available for borrowing and to print out lists of suitable resources for their use. Students can devote more of their time to using research materials, while teachers are able to devote more time to helping children make the best use of information they find. Additionally, students have the ability to access appropriate, curriculum-related sites on the internet from every classroom in the school, as well as the Library-Media Center. This opens the door to a whole new avenue of learning for our students and an ability for them to access a wide variety of information from all corners of the globe. |
