Roosevelt houses approximately 360 students in the grades K-2. We enjoy a full day Kindergarten program as well as an enriched curriculum in grades 1 and 2.
The main focus of our school is Literacy Development. We support a unified philosophy about how children learn to read and write. This philosophy emphasizes a combination of whole class, small group, and individual instruction. Students are directed to read books at their own level of difficulty and spend time practicing their reading skills during an Independent Reading workshop. In much the same way, writing is taught using a workshop approach. Emphasis is placed on students writing about topics of their choice while refining the craft which includes revision and editing. |
