Saw Mill Road Elementary School

We are one of six schools in the North Bellmore School District, educating more than 600 children in grades K-6.

Saw Mill Road School is more than chalkboards, books and classrooms. We are a community of dedicated people – parents, students, teachers and staff – all working together to create a safe, exciting and nurturing environment. Our goal is to encourage the social, emotional, physical and academic growth of all of our children.

As you walk through our halls, you will observe our fine educational staff providing an enriched academic program both in classroom settings and in the area of related arts. Our Media Center provides opportunities for our children to participate in video-conferencing, conduct online research, and gather the latest data from the Saw Mill Weather Station. Walk into the gymnasium and you will view a physical education program that emphasizes the mind-body connection. It integrates the academic curriculum through loco-motor activities and personal fitness challenges. On any given day, watch our children exploring the chambers of the heart, comparing their resting and active heart rate, setting volleyballs or dribbling basketballs. Our music program offers both choral and instrumental opportunities. Fifth and sixth grade children may join our chorus, band or strings orchestra. Whether it’s to the strains of Miles Davis, Bach or the Beatles, children and teachers alike tap through the school year. Stroll into one of our art classes and you might find our children studying the techniques of master artists, creating fine ceramic sculptures, weaving braids using the ancient method of Kumi Himo or creating their own original drawings incorporating the principles and elements of design.

Finally, we have a wonderfully active and supportive PTA who provides programs and activities that enrich our school environment. From hosting our field day to bringing in entertaining and educational assemblies, our PTA supports our children and our staff with heartwarming generosity and enthusiasm.
